Welcome to Hanover Academy

What makes Hanover Academy so special and unique?  Yes, it is a school but it’s much more than that.  This is your child’s second family and home!   From the first day they walk through the front door, their journey begins.

If you stop in our Early Childhood wing, you might see the little Pre-school students learning to count to ten in Spanish during circle time or painting masterpieces in Art; there is always a steady buzz of activity and excitement in their classroom.

At Hanover Academy, we believe in offering our students a “tailored education.”  The small class sizes allow our faculty members to know their students as individuals.  We understand that every child’s path of learning is different, whether one might need extra instruction or more advanced challenges. On Friday afternoons, school dismisses an hour early so that teachers can work with students individually.  This ensures that each student will have the opportunity to reach their potential. Our mission is to educate our students in a progressive, positive environment that will develop them emotionally, spiritually, and academically.

There is nothing more heartwarming than to see a child smile, especially if those smiles are centered around school. At Hanover Academy, we have had the pleasure of watching those smiles grow as we educate the youth of Hanover and surrounding counties for the last 55 years.

Academics

Hanover Academy provides A Tailored Education to each student and is the core of the Academy’s academic program. We believe that in order to help each student reach their own personal best and be successful, we need to understand the student’s individual needs and strive to meet them. Our small class sizes, which allow for more individual attention for each student, is one of the many ways we succeed in meeting their needs.

Our comprehensive curriculum is structured to expose our students to a wide spectrum of core academic subjects as well as Fine Arts, Foreign Language, and Physical Education. We involve our students in a variety of field trips and community service activities to further enrich their educational experience.
The Academy’s overall educational program is developed from the school’s stated philosophy and is organized to address the educational developmental needs of our students. The teachers encourage students to explore, experiment, create, question and think for themselves. Each student is taught to master the fundamentals of language arts and mathematics, to acquire knowledge and appreciation of science, social studies, fine arts, and a foreign language.

Hanover Academy has a published curriculum guide, which includes a description of each academic program offered by the school. In addition to the course content, this guide also contains specific objectives, texts, materials, and evaluative criteria for each academic course.

The faculty provides individualized instruction to each student. Each student works on his/her grade level. When further instruction is needed, each child is given an opportunity to be tutored individually during a special time know as coaching. This time has been designated for tutoring every Friday during the last hour of the school day.

Support

Dear Hanover Academy Supporters,

We are off to another busy start to the school year. To date, we have held many annual activities to include our Thanksgiving Luncheon and Grandparents’ Day. As the chill entered the air and we set our sights on the Tacky Light Tour, our “Gift Card” Tree Raffle Drawing and the annual Christmas Pageant.

The of the semester is fast approaching and as we enter the season of giving, we ask you to consider making a year end gift to Hanover Academy. Like most independent schools, tuition does not cover the full cost of a child’s education at Hanover Academy. This year, almost 40% of our students are receiving financial assistance and this is why we are appealing to the members of our school community to make a gift to the annual fund.

To the school’s alumni and supporters, you already know the importance of a Hanover Academy education. Once such former parent and teacher, Barclay DuPriest, has recently launched the alumni challenge.

Please follow this link and listen to the challenge from Barclay.  We guarantee this challenge won’t be as cold as the ice bucket challenge that has recently gone viral.  The Hanover Academy Challenge instead will warm your hearts.

It is the contributions from Hanover Academy’s supporters that continue to allow us to provide the highest quality education possible and still keep tuition affordable for our school families.  In these challenging economic times, we need your support now more than ever.  Your gift is extremely important to Hanover Academy because it makes an immediate impact in our students’ lives.

May the blessings of the Christmas Season be with you and your loved ones.  We thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
Rebecca Thomas
